RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – The Burroughs Wellcome Fund’s Board of Directors has named the recipients of the 2017 Career Awards for Science and Mathematics Teachers (CASMT). The CASMT provides leadership and professional development support for excellent mathematics and science teachers in North Carolina public schools.

“While this award provides support and recognition to individual teachers, it reflects the excellence of our teachers in North Carolina,” said BWF President Dr. John Burris. “The support further provides professional development and curriculum creation that will impact students and fellow teachers.”
CASMT is a five-year $175,000 award available to outstanding science and/or math teachers in North Carolina public primary and secondary schools. Its purpose is to recognize teachers who have demonstrated solid knowledge of science and/or mathematics content and have outstanding performance records in educating children. The program has provided 23 awards. CASMT is a partnership with the State Board of Education and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
The Burroughs Wellcome Fund, a private foundation founded in 1955, advances biomedical science by supporting research and education.
