RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — The Burroughs Wellcome Fund Board of Directors is pleased to announce the recipients for the most recent round of Promoting Innovation in Science and Mathematics Awards (PRISM). The PRISM Awards support K-12 teachers in their efforts to promote excitement for learning by providing high quality, hands-on science and/or mathematics curriculum or activities in the classroom. The award provides up to $3,000 for one year to cover the costs of equipment, materials, and supplies. An additional $1,500 may be requested for professional development related to the implementation of the new purchases.
“For a relatively small investment, we are able to interest and excite a large number of students about science and mathematics,” said Burroughs Wellcome Fund President John Burris. “We are happy to provide support for innovative teachers who make the extra effort in their teaching of science and math.”
To support teaching professionals, the Fund also offers the Career Award for Science and Mathematics Teachers. The award is for licensed K-12 science and/or mathematics teaching professionals with five or more years of experience. This award provides $175,000 over five years and includes supplemental salary support, funds for classroom materials/equipment, and funds for professional development. The goal of the award is to recognize excellence in the teaching professional and encourage personal and professional growth and leadership development in science and mathematics teaching.
