Project Title:  AASTC Scholarships for Students Experiencing Homelessness

SERVE, Inc.'s All-Arts, Sciences & Technology Camp (AASTC) hosted at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in partnership with the North Carolina Homeless Education Program (NCHEP) offers need-based scholarships to rising middle school students experiencing homelessness in Guilford, Forsyth, and Alamance counties.

This project is called AASTC Scholarships for Students Experiencing Homelessness. The program covers the scholarships of 81 residential campers over three years, hosts interactive STEM Saturdays, and supplies costs for follow up STEM kits. This endeavor sends 27 different children experiencing homelessness in the summers of 2019, 2020, and 2021 to AASTC hosted at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). Each child has an opportunity to attend camp to experience a hands-on inquiry-based approach to learning in the STEM subjects, make lifelong friends, and live on a college campus.

Campers take two courses for the weeklong camp and are required to choose at least one science or technology-based course from our variety of STEM courses. The purpose of this camp is to increase students' competence and interests in STEM subjects and expose campers to a college experience that may give them a vision for their future.
