Creation of a new center to serve as a connector
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC – The Burroughs Wellcome Fund is pleased to announce a $150,000 grant to the Public School Forum of North Carolina for the planning, development, and establishment of a Center for Educational Equity and Opportunity.
“The Fund has had a long partnership with the Public School Forum of North Carolina,” said Fund President Dr. John Burris. “This opportunity provides a means to elevate our work in education equity.”
The Center will serve as a hub to identify and connect organizations, networks, and thought leaders who address equity, access, and opportunity in education across North Carolina.
“The Burroughs Wellcome Fund is committed to diversity and equity in education,” said Alfred Mays, program officer at the Fund. “We are pleased to support a collaborative strategy that ensures an equity lens is being applied to policy analysis, research, and programmatic efforts in education.”
The Public School Forum will manage the initial grant from the Fund, however, multiple partners and an advisory board comprised of representatives from various education and community organizations will guide the strategic work plan of the Center.
“The Public School Forum is excited to accept this grant, as it will accelerate and deepen our work on equity,” said Dr. Tom Williams, Chair of the Board of Directors for the Public School Forum of NC. “This gift will allow us to increase the collaboration of partnering organizations and individuals from across North Carolina driven to ensure each child realizes an equitable educational opportunity.”
