Since 1996, The Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF) has invested approximately $45 million in supporting reproductive sciences research, mainly focusing on adverse pregnancy health outcomes. This research is critical to the goals of the BWF Preterm Birth Initiative, and BWF remains committed to supporting current awardees and related activities.
To better align our efforts with the evolving needs of pregnancy-related research, BWF will pause the Next Generation Pregnancy Initiative (NGPI) award program for the upcoming cycle. During this period, BWF will collaborate with Health Resources in Action (HRiA) to conduct a strategic assessment and planning of the NGPI award program. We anticipate relaunching the NGPI competitive award program in 2025 for the 2026 cycle.
Dr. Paige Cooper Byas, Program Officer for NGPI and primary project lead, aims to use this collaboration to enhance our impact. Mandeep Sekhon, MPH, Associate Communications and Special Projects Officer, will also work alongside Dr. Cooper Byas and HRiA to facilitate this initiative. HRiA is a nonprofit public health organization dedicated to improving and reimagining public health.
We appreciate your understanding and look forward to continuing our support of groundbreaking research in reproductive sciences.
